Applied Behavior Analysis and Parent Training in Lake Oswego, Oregon

What is Applied Behavior Analysis?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a therapeutic approach based on the science of learning and behavior. ABA therapy applies our understanding of how behavior works to real situations. The goal is to increase behaviors that are helpful and decrease behaviors that are harmful or affect learning. For many families, one-on-one behavior therapy for their child is a necessary component of the overall support plan. While parent and family training are essential for behavior change, some children require one-on-one support to learn and strengthen skills surrounding:

Emotional dysregulation/escalation

Rigidity and inflexible thinking

Perseverative behaviors

Overall compliance

Disrespectful language

Parent/Caregiver Training

Parent training is an evidence-based method to encourage behavior change for children and teens. Equipping parents and caregivers with the tools and techniques necessary to understand and shape their child’s behavior is essential.

Securing participation by other professionals such as teachers and tutors plays an instrumental role in creating behavior change as well. It is important that all individuals spending time with your child in the environment where problem behavior occurs are working towards common goals using consistent, research-based strategies and the most effective tools known in behavioral science to effect long-term behavior change.

Co-Parent Training
